However, in the mean time, he has ticked off the Green Party.

Doug Ireland first broke this story, linking Nader to cult leader Fred Newman. Here is how Ireland described the cult:

This cult is the antithesis of every value Nader holds dear. A Maoist grouplet in the ’70s, the Newmanites morphed into supporters of Pat Buchanan in the Hitler-coddling commentator’s 2000 takeover of the Reform Party. Newman recruits and controls his followers through a brainwashing scheme baptized “social therapy,” designed to create blind allegiance to Newman. He has frequently dipped his rhetoric in the poisonous blood-libel of anti-Semitism, denouncing Jews as “storm troopers of decadent capitalism.” By French-kissing the cultists to get on the ballot, Nader has allowed himself to be used as bait to lure the unsuspecting into the Newmanite orbit, where they risk being sucked into the cult. That’s a betrayal of the many young people to whom Nader is still a hero. And an acid commentary on Nader’s judgment.

As a result, the leaders of the Green Party have continued to distance themselves from Nader and offered more evidence of Nader's connection to this cult. It is hard to believe, that but for the Green Party's support of Nader four years ago, Al Gore would have been our president. I only hope people do not make the same mistake again this year and allow Bush a second term.

Here comes Bill

It appears the former president will be back in action. Well, this omission was not intentional. I just did not figure anyone would ever really care. However, with the increased traffic from BlogExposion and the PBA, a few people have contacted me wanting to know where I am from and what I do.

To begin, I am from Clintwood, Virginia – a small town in the Appalachian Mountains. Clintwood is the county seat of Dickenson County. For my undergraduate degree, in Environmental Science, I attended Emory & Henry College. Following that, I took a year off and worked for a company called Sykes and just enjoyed some time out of school. Finally, I followed through with my education and entered law school at Ohio Northern University, in Ada, Ohio and will be graduating in December 2004. Ada is also a small town, about an hour’s drive northwest of Columbus and hour’s drive south of Toledo.

Currently, I am jumping through the hoops of applying for the bar exam, review courses for the bar, job hunting, and trying to finish up my classes.

Obviously, I am a die-hard Democrat, supporting Kerry in this year’s election. Originally, I did not care much for Kerry and was backing either Edwards or Clark. However, as we know, Iowa quickly pushed Kerry to the head of the line in the primaries. Thus, I am now supporting Kerry and Edwards.

After looking at other people’s “about me” sections, I noticed most people mention hobbies. I guess my main hobbies are fishing, Nascar, weblogs, and politics.

Bush Google Bomb

Just found this site, containing a huge pro-Bush Google bomb, via Right Moment.

I will have to give them credit, they are not pulling any punches. When George W. Bush took over he did not raise the force levels of the military by a single soldier. Even after 9-11, he still did not increase the size of the US Military and now claims that the current force levels are adequate for fighting in Afghanistan, Iraq and, should it prove necessary, Korea. Were Republicans lying for eight years, or have they been lying for the last four?

2) FDR went into World War II with an alliance. By the end of the war the alliance had grown. George H.W. Bush entered Gulf War I with an alliance. By the end of that war the alliance had grown. Even Lincoln managed to end the Civil War with more support at home, and stronger alliances abroad. George W. Bush went into his war with an alliance. Within months that alliance had begun to shrink. Please explain how losing support and alienating allies is a sign of strong leadership?

3) George W. Bush inherited the greatest surplus in the history of the United States, and within months turned it into one of the greatest deficits. He accomplished this with a GOP House and a GOP Senate. Explain how this represents good fiscal stewardship?

4) Newt Gingrich and the GOP revolution called for abolishing the Department of Education, and denounced federal control of education. George W. Bush brags about expanding the Department of Education, and of extending federal control of education. Please explain which of these positions is "conservative?"

5) The Roman Catholic church denounces the death penalty, birth control and abortion. Explain why conservative Catholics have a right to flout the church on the first two, but must obey the church's dictates on the third?

6) Lie about fellatio: impeachable offense. Lie about medicare costs, war costs and links between Saddam and Osama: leadership. Explain?

7) Eight years of relentless, vitriolic, hysterical, occasionally obscene attacks on a president's wife: moral. Mention of the well-known sexual orientation of a vice president's daughter: immoral. Explain?

8) The President's men projected that by now we would have fewer than 30,000 troops in Iraq, a nation the size of Texas and surrounded by terrorist states. This is only slightly larger than the number of NYPD, Transit Police and FBI deployed to defend the Republican National Convention. Explain this in one or more of the following terms: lies, fantasies or delusions.

9) President Bush was elected with roughly 49% of the vote. He now has the support of roughly 49% of the American people. Explain how this demonstrates the president's likeability.

10) In every previous war in US history taxes were raised and unemployment fell. Under President Bush taxes were cut and unemployment rose. Meanwhile, US troops lack body armor. Tell me how this represents leadership?

Questions, via Counterpunchblog and found via MouseMusings.

Again, I am not saying there are not good answers for each of them, but every voter needs to at least have considered each of the above before making their decision.

Eight magic states

In this recent article, the AP breaks the election down and advises that eight states and their 99 electoral votes will decide the outcome of this year's election. Those states being: Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Iowa, and Nevada. However, they further posit that it really comes down to the "triangle of influence." The triangle, accounting for 68 votes, is made up of Ohio, Florida, and Pennsylvania. The Directive improperly required: (1) required voter eligibility to be determined on election day instead of at a later date; (2) limited provisional ballots to only people who had moved to new precincts; (3) failed to require un-listed voters be notified of the provisional ballot option; and (4) limited provisional ballots to voters who had not tried to vote at another precinct.

The effect of this Order will be, if a voter ends up at the wrong voting precinct, he or she can still cast a ballot for the federal races, and his or her eligibility to vote in Ohio can be determined at a later date. If the voter was an ineligible voter, his or her ballot will be discarded.

The plaintiffs (Democrats) only ask that the existing laws be interpreted properly by Secretary Blackwell.

Al Gore

It's good to see Al Gore is staying busy this year. My friend Kilo has been recording some of these activities against Republicans.

Here is another example of vandalism, where the Lucas County Democratic Headquarters was burglarized. A few computers were taken, even some with confidential campaign strategies on them.

Hopefully, people will realize that this activity is not "supporting" their party. I think people who do these things feel as if their entitled to break the law as long as its in the name of the competing party. Unfortunately, the vandals seem to be forgetting their actions are criminal.

I guess these people have forgot that "the pump don't work 'Cause the vandals took the handles."

UPDATE: As reported by Documenting Democracy, the Norfolk, Virginia headquarters was also recently vandalized and accounts of major yard sign theft.

Environmental Issues Hit Home

I once heard a saying that "you don't have to go around the world, to save the world." This old proverb is ringing true as of late. In the region that I come from in Virginia, we do not have the large environmental groups and organizations like large cities and metropolitan areas have, but that's not to say we do not have pressing environmental issues of our own. My area is heavily dependent on coal mining and logging. Further, my family and extended family are extremely dependent on coal mining. Thus, I am burdened with the labor of looking at both sides.

However, we do have some advocacy and awareness groups that do their best to protect and preserve the natural resources of Southwest Virginia. Here is an example of one of their latest efforts to bring awareness about a timber harvest in the High Knob mountain range.

Once one has seen High Knob for themselves, it is easy to see why people feel so passionate about protecting it. Here is a site that has a lot information about High Knob and some good pictures.

Debates and Viewers

As reported here, the second debate did not receive as many viewers as the first. However, a substantial number of people still tuned in.

1st Debate - 62.5 million viewers
2nd Debate - 46.7 million viewers

Actually, I do not think the less viewers is anything to worry about. Although the topics were different for each debate, it seemed like the key phrases were the same from both sides at both debates. The 15.8 Million viewers who watched the first, and not the second probably did not miss much.

For Comparison, the Vice-Presidential debate in Cleveland, Ohio drew 43.6 million viewers. Additionally, the second debate in 2000, between Al Gore and Bush drew only 37.6 million viewers.

Thus, two conclusions can be drawn from this limited data. First, the higher numbers in 2004, compared to 2000, means more people are interested this year. Therefore, it would follow more interest will equal more voters. Second, the similarity between the amount of viewers who tuned in for the Vice-presidential and second Presidential debate lead me to believe both groups of viewers represent the hardliner political junkies (roughly 40 million). The first debate probably captured people's interest that would not have normally tuned into a presidential debate. It will be very interesting to see how many viewers the third and final presidential debate draws on Wednesday. I am predicting 34 -42 million.

Superman

Christopher Reeve has passed away. I really think the idea Democrat Candidate Jeff Seemann in Ohio's 16th District experimented with recently is the wave of the future.

He allowed visitors to his website to vote on what they wanted him to do during the day. It was considered a virtual campaign manager. Also, he received national media coverage for the project.

Now, that was a good experiment, but here is how I envision this concept being utilized. I think the day-to-day activities are generally not of interest to people. I think I would want a say in what my Rep. or Senator votes for and against. Staff could post daily issues and constituents could vote on whether they wanted their elected officials to support or not support the specific issues. However, I think it would have to be only considered as guidance and the elected official would still have an opportunity to follow the guidance or his gut. But, I think if an official did not follow the guidance, he or she would be accountable the next election cycle and need to explain his or her decisions.

Jobs, Jobs, Jobs

There are a lot of issues that are important to me this year, but few more important than jobs. Perhaps this is because I do not yet have a job and will be graduating in less than three months and am being selfish. However, we all know that an economy cannot prosper without adequate employment opportunities. Therefore, I think jobs could be a deciding issue for a lot of undecided voters.

The new job report released today, although unfortunate for America, might just give Kerry the boost he was needing.

Here is what John Kerry had to say about the report:

The verdict is in: With 1.6 million private sector jobs lost during his term, President Bush will be the first President in 72 years to face the electorate with an economy that has lost jobs under his watch. Indeed, job creation is now 7 million jobs behind where the Administration projected in February 2002 our economy would now be if we followed the President's economic plan. And even the modest numbers of jobs created are paying $9,000 less than the jobs being lost, and are too often without health care and pension coverage that working families need.

Nader off Ohio Ballot, but . . .

Currently, Nader is off the Ohio ballot. However, he is trying everything possible to get back on in Ohio, as well as other states. However, it's no secret how important Ohio is to this year's election.

Unfortunately, Nader has taken his "Ballot Battle" to court in Ohio. He has filed in Federal Court alleging that the law requiring petition circulators to be Ohio residents be held unconstitutional. Further, on Oct. 4, 2004, he filed in state court asking that signatures and petitions be re-evaluated.

Thus, the question becomes: Whether or not he will prevail on either case. The Federal case seems like a sure loser for Nader. However, anything can happen. On the other hand, with a partisan Court in Ohio, the state case may have some potential. Hopefully, he will not be successful on either. Not to mention, some counties have already began reprinting ballots and sending them out without Nader's name on them.

UPDATE: Looks like the Ohio Ballot situation is getting worse. Some voters are getting absentee ballots with Nader's name still on them, but a note saying votes for Nader will not be counted. Now how much more screwed up can this get? So if he wins either of the aforementioned cases, will they just send out another note saying votes for him will be counted? See here for more info on this latest news.

Dangerous Profession

The legal profession has become more and more dangerous. Here is an example of why I am most interested in taking Civil cases.

[Defendant] Williams wrapped his arms around [Attorney] Garraway and cut him above the eye and on the neck just as the defense lawyer was about to rest his case.
I feel bad for this Public Defender and hope he is ok. I added the comments/trackback to my template and was well on my way. However, because of having the two words (comment and trackback) instead of the one, it pushed the email icon down to a second line. Such disarray was unacceptable to someone as anal as I am.

Thus, I had to remove HaloScan and revert back to good ole Blogger. Besides, I was not seeing any immediate advantages and I couldn't figure out anyway to preserve my old comments. So, I guess until I can do some more research on it, I will stick with what I've got. Something tells me there has to be some major advantages to using their service since so many other people are using them for Comments.

Picture of Cheney and Edwards

No ladies and gentlemen, this was not taken last night at the debate even though Cheney's one good zinger was that he had never met Sen. The Lima News has this article about how important Ohio is going to be.

Historically, few states have been more reliable barometers of success in national politics. Since achieving statehood in 1803, Ohio has backed the winner in 41 of 50 presidential elections. No Republican has ever won the White House without winning Ohio. Since 1900, only two Democrats have done so — Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1944 and Kennedy in 1960.

If those stats do not make Ohio important this year, I am not sure what else could.

See ya.

Debate

Well, I don't think it will be any big shock to anyone reading this that I think Kerry won tonight's debate. He had a heck of a showing and surely voters will realize that he offers a better alternative to the current president.

See ya.

Another Endorsement

Although this one like many others carry very little political weight, they are nevertheless symbolic endorsements. Its pretty clear that most voters are not real crazy about Cheney and if Kerry can emphasize the connections between:
Bush --> Cheney --> Halliburton --> Big government contracts --> Back to Cheney
he might could pick up some of those few undecided voters. It does not seem like were hearing enough about things like this that have happened in the last 5 years. Instead, the media seems to be cluttered with Kerry in Vietnam and Bush maybe/maybe not in Alabama.

Now I am no campaign strategy expert, but clearly Kerry's current plan is not working. Someone needs to take notice and make some changes before its too late.

I still cannot believe Bush kept Cheney on the ticket. "They feel as if they're entitled to everything that comes their way. I know that the first President Bush felt that he deserved to be President because it was his turn to be President."

Now, don't get me wrong, I am not agreeing with everything this woman has to say and I doubt I will buy the book. But, the things that she quotes others on are hard to dispute. For example, Ron Reagan Jr. is not denying his quotes in the book, along with others. Also, I realize that Sharon Bush is now denying that she said a lot of that stuff, but that is just helping Kelley. Look at how all the controversy helped Mel Gibson and Michael Moore. Kelley may even be paying Sharon Bush to deny things she wrote about in the book to help publicize it.

Further, regardless of its truth, she will sell a ton of books and put the Bush Campaign on defense for a while. So, for that reason, sounds like a good book to me.

See ya.

A new look

Well, I finally got bored with the old look (had to happen). So, I changed the layout some and added a few new links. Other than that, just hanging out, and doing some reading.

One observation I had today was that it looks as though Gmail invites have risen almost to the level of being worth money. If Google had not released as many as it did, I honestly think people may have been offering money for them by now - or may already be. I have not done any research on the topic, but just in casual conversation around the school today and reading on some other blogs led me to believe Gmail is "in demand" to say the least.

My one negative thought of Gmail has been eliminated, by gPopper for the time being. And, that negative was no POP3 access. I guess I am just addicted to Outlook and need all my email in one inbox.

Finally, I am looking forward to going out and doing some shopping for a TEC9 or an Uzi. Any suggestions on which would be better. The 26th race is over, and Harvick sits 14th in the points. Thus, not in the Chase for the Championship. I had not even considered this as a possibility, so I was a bit stunned, to say the least. However, I have come to the conclusion that it is what it is, and there is no use worrying about it. But, I just can't help but think about what could have been. Although, in all honesty, he is in the points position he deserves for the way they have been running. I guess if your going to be a top 15 car, you deserved to be around 15th in the points. At least now they have all the testing dates they had been saving all year, and can go test at several places over these last ten races. More importantly, I can concentrate on studying and not on nascar for the next few months.

See ya.

Finally Friday!

Well, its finally Friday and I am looking forward to the weekend. It has been a long week. This was the second week of my new externship. I am clerking for a Federal Bankruptcy Judge, in Toledo. Its an awesome way to get experience and see what happens behind the scene in the Courtroom. Hopefully, having that on my Resume will help me get a good job.

Also, I finally got Gmail!! Many thanks to Kilo for sending me an Invite. Google looks poised to steal a good slice of the market share from Microsoft and Yahoo with this new product. The one thing I like best about Gmail is the almost limitless storage space. If I had to pick the one thing I would change about Gmail - it would be making it accessible in a POP3 Client (Outlook, Outlook Express, etc.). However, Yahoo only allows this for a charge, and Hotmail only allows this in its Outlook Express. So, that aspect is not a negative for Gmail when its compared to its competition. It would just be a nice perk. And, their FAQ section suggests it might be available in the future.

Further, I hope everyone is grateful to the NRA for winning their battle against the Assault Weapon ban. How can anyone be against this ban? And, don't get me wrong, I love my guns, Constitutional Rights, and hunting, but come on - an Uzi? Who are we kidding - these things have one good purpose and that is to kill people.

See ya.

GOP Convention Bounce?? Two points seems a lot more likely than the seven or eight some people were first saying. I will have to admit, they had a decent convention, but I think a lot of people just tuned to watch Zell Miller explode.

The best part was on Hardball when he went off on Chris Matthews too. I think Zell is just an old man that's mad at everybody.

Everybody needs to be sure and visit the Clintonfoundation.org and support our former president. It sounds like everything went routine - I cannot wait to see him back out on the road, stumping for Kerry.

And, thanks Kilo for wondering where I had got to. I didn't have any major homework this weekend, and it was a long weekend with the holiday, so I just hung out and watched the race. I still cant believe Harvick went from 8th to 15th in one race. Hopefully, we can get back in the top-ten at Richmond.

See ya.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://b-patton.blogspot.com/2004/09/gop-convention-bounce-nah.html' title='GOP Convention Bounce?? Although this is not direct evidence of collusion, it is certainly another factor. Further, when all the factors are looked at as a whole it is starting to look more and more like the Bush Campaign was pulling the strings with this group. This latest disclosure now means there were two people heavily involved with the Campaign that was also substantially involved with the soft money group. The other being retired Air Force Col. Ken Cordier, who was on the Campaign Steering Committee and also starring in the group's ads.

In sum, admittely, we are using soft money groups a lot more than republicans. However, democrats follow the law and use it to their advantage. It says even more about Kerry's character when Bush says that those opposing him has used a lot more soft money, because there has not been any verifiable collusion between Kerry and ANY of the soft money groups opposing Bush even though there are so many more of them, as Bush says.

See ya

First day of class

Today was my first day of class. It was a typical first day with all the "how was your summer" lines. However, the one good thing about this first day was that it will be my last first day. It is nice to know that I am down to my last semester of law school - finally. Although, in many ways I am not sure I want to be done. Once school is over, I will have to start worrying about all the important stuff, like jobs, bar exam, etc. But, I guess sooner or later I had to finish school, and now is just when it had to be. Hopefully, everything will breeze by this semester, and then I will pass the bar, and be offered a good job.

As for the election, I am about sick of hearing about the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. I cannot believe that Bush is really wanting to compare military records with Kerry. Whether he is directly, or indirectly behind this group's efforts, he needs to put a stop to talking about Kerry in Vietnam. Eventually, everyone is going to ask themselves why he should get any benefit at the cost of tearing down a decorated veteran. Its not like Kerry's dad was the one pulling strings to get him three Purple Hearts to get him out of the war, which is what George senior would have done.

See ya.

Map of Visited States

Well, in my travels this month, I realized that I needed a visual record of which states I have visited. So, I found a website where one can create a customized map of the states he or she has visited.

So, here is a map of the states I have visited. Obviously, I still have several states to go before I can say I have visited all Fifty, which is my goal. However, I guess this is a good start. Currently, I have visited D.C. and 25 of the 50 states.

See ya.

Another trip in the books

Jayne and I finally made it back from Myrtle Beach, without being wiped out by Charley. Just my luck that a hurricane would hit the beach the same time I got down there. But, we left on Friday, and were supposed to leave on Saturday morning anyway, so it only cut us short by a few hours anyway. However, it was weird to be in an evacuation zone. I was just glad to be out of there and back in the mountains where its safe.

One highlight of the last few weeks was that within a two week time period, I was in the Pacific Ocean in California, and in the Atlantic Ocean, in Myrtle Beach. Its not often that someone gets to visit both oceans, much less within a few weeks. Further, all of this was accomplished while driving, not flying. I suppose some type of comparison should be made between the two, but I am going to just take the easy way out and not say which one I liked best. The only thing that could have been cooler was to have hit the Gulf of Mexico too, but I guess since I did that last summer, I will have to settle for just the two oceans.

In politics, this quote seems to sum up why we need a new president:
Government is supposed to make choices on your behalf, [it] is not supposed to
make choices that favor just the powerful special interests, the people with the
money who can go to Washington and have access average people can’t have.
(John Kerry in an interview with MSNBC.com) Kerry says it best with that quote. Bush has taken a list of all his campaign contributors to D.C. with him and been paying them back one at a time. Whether it be through government contracts or tax cuts, those who paid out the big bucks in 2000, have been reaping the benefits of their investments. Its time to change this theme and elect John Kerry and John Edwards.

See ya.

Back in Virginia

After many miles traveled and long hours in the car, I am finally back from my swing across the country. The trip was really great and had several surprises. Colorado was just as cool as I had expected it to be. Boulder seemed like a nice town and a good place to live for a few years while in school. It seemed to really have all the benefits of a small town, but had the big city feel.

In Vegas, we stayed at the MGM Grand and got a big upgrade from a regular room to a Marquee Suite. For whatever reason, the check-in clerk hooked us up - big time. The problem with Vegas was that there was just too much to see in such a short time. But, I think we hit all the main spots. I had a good run going on some Blackjack winning, but it left as quickly as it came and I cashed out with a net loss of five bucks. Not bad for playing for a few hours, I guess.

Next, it was off to see the Pacific coast. The trip from Vegas to the ocean was fairly short and we ended up at San Juan Capistrano. There were several cool beaches there and we got to splash around in the Pacific for the first time. It did not seem much different from the Atlantic, but it was a quick visit. After that, we came back across the country via Interstate 40. It felt like that road lasted forever, but understandably so.

Also, in a striking twist, we decided to take the last 16 hours of the drive all at once, as opposed to breaking it up into 12 hour stretches like we had been. It just did not make much sense to stop some where when your 4 hours from being home. However, the 16 was to Jason and Jeremy's house, so I had 4 more hours from there down to Clintwood by myself. So, when it was all done, I had been on the road for 20 hours straight. Instead of trying to sleep a few hours when I got home, I just stayed awake and watched the race and visited with family. So, currently, I have now been awake sense 12:00 pm on Saturday, when we left Oklahoma. Of course that does not include the naps I took in the car when I was not driving. Either way, I felt like it was a personal accomplishment to stay awake that long and still be somewhat sane. So, in forty more minutes, I will have been awake 36 hours. I may just try and stay awake and see how long I can go. Maybe I should include this sleep avoidance skill on my resume.

Later.

Finished with exams - finally

Not that this summer semester has went slow, I am just glad to be done. I just think we need a president who is willing to stay up late, get up early, and work everyday when necessary. A full month of vacation seems excessive. I could understand it better if he was breaking it up a little, but all at once. However, I thought he would be wanting to spend as much time as possible in D.C., why he still has a house there. After the first of the year he will have to be moving out.
I guess this will give Israel a break, but this instability cannot be helping the peace process. If Arafat would just step up and at least maintain stability, the attempted peace process could continue. I guess he enjoys being in the news and in the spotlight. I feel most sorry for Prime Minister Ahmed Qorei who is just stuck in the middle of the mess. I think he has tried to resign a couple of times unsuccessfully, so he is obviously not happy either. But, I think its safe to say, as long as Arafat is in charge, we can all forget Mid-east peace. So, in the mean time, it will continue to be a driving political issue in the United States. Further, we have seen how much progress G. I think. Considering a few months ago I did not know what HTML was, I think have progressed fairly well. When I first started trying to learn, my only intention was to create a nice place for my niece Andee' to display her beauty pageant pictures. Then I made one for Garrett, one of my nephews. Suddenly, I realized maybe I should do one for myself. Since then I have had about ten different versions. But, finally, I think I will keep it the way it is now, and just make small updates as needed. Besides, I think Jayne is getting tired of me always changing the layout.

If anyone is interested, here is the link: http://www2.onu.edu/~b-patton/

Go Kerry/Edwards

Later.

Another day down

Well, just finished playing a game of Rook and heard on the news that Ron Reagan will be speaking at the Democratic Convention this year. How cool is that? Even though his speech will be about stem cell research, it is still a victory for Democrats to have the issue of such a popular republican speaking at the convention. I am anxious to see the reaction. It should help Kerry take some independent voters.

Other than that, not much going on. Once again waiting to see if Tony Stewart will be fined by Nascar. He seems to be on the hot seat this year. But, I am always glad to see Kasey Kahne go out early. Otherwise, just getting ready for the coming Monday and doing some reading for class. Hope everyone had a good weekend.

Later

Just hanging out

Another weekend is half over, and I still have not done anything productive. I guess I need to be doing some studying, but instead, Jayne and I just finished watching "Eurotrip" with Kristin. That movie kicks [butt]. I thought it would just be stupid, but it was actually funny. It makes me really want to go to Europe.

Nothing much in the news today. Harvick fell out of the Busch race early with engine issues. Hopefully, tomorrow will be a strong run.

Later.

First Bankruptcy Trial

Today was my first ever bankruptcy trial. I had been to court for other things to observe, etc., but I had never been able to observe a bankruptcy related hearing until today. I think it went really well and hopefully I will be on the winning side. We will have to wait on the Judge's opinion to know, but to me it seems like a slamdunk.

However, I got home just in time to catch the end of qualifying and discovered Jeff Gordon won his fourth consecutive pole. It seems as though Hendrick Motorsports has found the proverbial ace in the hole and are cashing in. Considering Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson have been two of the dominant cars since Dover, something is going on. I think they have found a horsepower trick. If it was aero related, it would not have shown up at Sears Point two weeks ago. It has to be more power. Chad Knaus or Robbie Loomis will not admit to it, they are both saying that they have just been working hard to build good cars. Yeah, whatever. Some engineer found the magic recipe. Too bad it was not RCR who found it. I would not mind to see Kevin Harvick doing some dominating of his own. Hopefully, Harvick and Todd Berrier are saving it all for the last ten races. If not, its going to be a long off season.

Later.

Terror alert rising

It looks like the terror alert will be rising again. Today Tom Ridge is stating that terrorists will be trying to influence the outcome of the presidential election. Well, I cannot really say I am surprised, considering what happened in Spain. But, the question is how do they think they can affect the election? If they attack the RNC convention and Kerry wins, he has not really said he was going to pull the troops out of Iraq, at least I do not think he has. However, if he was running on a strict anti-war platform it would be a no-brainer that terrorists would attack the RNC. In the current setting, who will they attack? It seems to me that if they attack either the DNC or RNC, Bush will win the election. All he has to do is swagger out there and say see, I told you so, and wins easily. But, if they do not attack either party, Kerry might can say see, I told you so, we need to decrease our military efforts and increase our diplomatic efforts in the middle east. I am not sure how it will go down, but one thing is for certain, I hope neither convention is attacked. I think that will help Kerry the most and will also help the country as a whole.

Later.

Kerry and Edwards

John Kerry has made a great decision to select John Edwards as the Vice-President. One would have to wonder what would have been had John McCain accepted the nod and joined the ticket. I guess its possible a Kerry/McCain ticket could have won all fifty states. But, we will never know. However, it looks like Edwards will compliment Kerry well just as they had hoped. They have been traveling all over the deciding states today with their families and are looking like a winning duo. I am hoping they will visit an area close to me so I can sneak in and get a handshake. I have never got to see a President in person, so seeing Kerry now might be my best chance. I guess it will still count if I get to see him before the election and before he is president.

Go Kerry/Edwards

Later.

Long Weekend

Finally got back from the long weekend. Jayne and I went home since she and I both had Monday off. We got to see some fireworks, let off some fireworks, and hang out with the family. Not to mention we did a lot of eating. Her family always has good cook-outs. But, all good things must come to an end, and were back in Ada for school and work. I guess I am anxious to get out of school, but worried about when and where I will get a job. I guess I can cross those bridges when I get to them. Apparently that hole he was in did not have a DirecTV system. One would think someone would have filled him in on those details by now. Actually, the craziest part is that statement is setting up his entire defense agaisnt these charges. He is going to argue that he should not be charged because he had presidential immunity. Not a bad strategy, considering the people have already convicted him. What is even funnier is that his defense counsel is asking for a change of venue. Yeah, thats a great idea, lets have the trial in Kuwait. I am sure we can find a jury of his peers. Whatever. This thing has to happen in Baghdad and needs to be quick.

Well, onto better subjects. I am sitting in Commercial Transactions, just waiting for it to end. I just got called on - and hammered, so I know I am safe for the rest of today. But, I am still paying attention, because the exam will be within a month. This is going to be a quick summer session. However, after this summer I am down to one semester of law school, one semester of college life, one semester of life as I know it. It seems like time just keeps going by faster and faster. I can remember wanting time to speed up when I was young, now I want it slow down. I guess thats typical. The older you get the faster time flies by.

The one notable event of today was that Nascar finally announced Tony Stewart's punishment for roughing up Vickers. A $50,000 fine and 25 point deduction has to seem like a slap on the wrist to Tony. I mean, hell, he gave $1 Million to Kyle Petty and the Victory Junction Gang Camp. I am sure he will admit that it was a $50,000 well spent. Afterall, doesnt everyone want to beat up on a Hendrick Driver sometimes. I think Roush drivers should donate their time to a good cause and allow people to throw stuff at them or something. That would make a fortune.

Later.

Exam --> Over!

Well, the mid-term, half of the final grade, is over! I am glad to have it out of the way, but dread seeing my grade. Its usually never good when your the first one done, but someone has to be first, and today was my lucky day. I turned it in with thirty minutes remaining. Oh well. Hopefully, this prof. will enjoy my consise answer and reward me for directly responding to the question, as opposed to b.s.'ing.

Now on to the rest of the week. I am chilling at Clinic now, working on the usual Penske file. I keep checking nascar.com, hoping to see what Tony Stewart's fine will be for going postal on Brian Vickers. I wish the cameras would have got some footage of taht going down. But, figures that their were none around. If that had been Harvick, they would have not only had cameras on him, they would have probably had microphones on those big sticks above the whole thing.

Another thing that I noticed today was that for some reason I cannot stop watching Fox News. I know it is slanted to the right in more ways that we can even fathom, but for some reason, myself and other liberals continue to tune in. I think maybe it is just because I feel like I am spying on the other side or something. Its hard to put my finger on exactly what is so appealing about it. For whatever reason, I keep watching. Maybe the DNC can offer a patch system to get us off that crap. They make a patch for everything else, right?

later.

In class.....learning and day dreaming

Well, its Monday, and one day before the mid-term. The countdown is finally on. I spent a good part of yesterday trying to learn all I needed to pass this class. But, I think I still have some more to learn. I am going to skip Clinic today and try to catch up on studying.

Today has already been crazy. I am trying to help my neighbor, Richard, get Sprint DSL. However, notwithstanding the wait time of when you call in, you also get a different story from each different agent. To date, I have called six times, and still do not have a modem in the mail. I really do not know what the answer is, but customer service from big companies is on a huge downhill slide. The one good thing Sprint has going for it is they have not outsourced to India. But, maybe this is where outsourcing can offer a positive for customers. Since all those people in India just read off scripts what they are telling you, its always consistent. That is the one thing American agents do not do. Speaking from experience, an American agent can understand what the American customer is wanting to hear, and just tell the customer what they want to hear instead of the correct answer. Anyway, it seems evident to me that eventually big companies will realize that customer service is what sells product and they will have to step up their game.

Later,

Exam Time (studying)

Well, I missed posting yesterday because I have been trying to study for my Commercial Transactions exam, that is this Tuesday. Actually, I should still be studying, but I was getting bored with it. For some reason, its more difficult to take summer school exams seriously. I am not sure why, considering they are worth just as much. But, I guess its the nice weather and other things that are going on. Either way, I am going to have to buckle down and get to studying. The prof, Veltri, seems like a cool guy, but from what I have heard he is pretty tough. So, I guess will need to study extra hard. With that being said, I think I had better get back to studying. However, I will have to take a short break from 3:30 - 6:00 for the race. Its at Sonoma, CA this weekend and Harvick usually does well there. I think he finished 3rd last year, so it might be a good chance for him to do well today. I sure hope so.

Later~

Second Post

Wow...I have now officially updated my blog for two days straight. This may not seem like much to most, but for me to have extra time keep something up to date is huge for me. But, anyway, today is just an average rainy day in Ohio. I am stuck inside anway, fulfilling my hours for Bankruptcy Clinic. So, I guess I am not missing much. Just sitting around bored with nothing to do, or as Jason would say, "working on the Penske file." Jason is my buddy from Emory & Henry. He goes to law school too, in Richmond, Virginia. He is doing an internship this summer too, and when they have nothing to do, around the office, they all say they are working on the Penske file. Not a bad way to say your doing nothing while making it sound like your working on something.

I guess I will try and edit the layout on my blog today. So far, I have not had much luck, but I guess I will get it figured out sometime. In the meantime, just look over the mess.

Well, I guess I had better get back to work, someone is needing help with our main client - Mr. Penske.

Later.

First Post.....

To all who read this: Greetings!

I am new to this whole blog thing, but look forward to building my own.

I guess I should start off with a little about myself. I am originally from Virginia, but am currently attending law school in Ohio. However, I am almost done with school and looking forward to joining the real world (not the show on MTV). Actually, I like that show, its really funny. I spend most of time that is available for television watching Nascar races on the weekends. I am a huge Kevin Harvick fan, but like several other drivers. Also, I am looking forward to the upcoming elections in November. It will be nice to have a truely elected president, instead of the current one that was selected by the Supreme Court. Although, I usually agree with the Supreme Court on most issues, their selection of the President leaves room for improvement.

Well, I guess I should get back to work and quit wasting time doing anything but work. So long for now.
